Duration of BHMS in India
The duration of the BHMS course is 5½ years, divided into four professional academic years followed by one year of compulsory internship.

- The first professional academic year is one semester followed by three years each of two semesters. So, there are a total of 11 semesters in the entire duration of the course. Each semester has a duration of six months.
- During the first academic year, students are introduced to basic medical sciences like Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, etc. In the second academic year, studies focus on Materia medica, Organon of Medicine, and Repertory.
- In the third academic year, therapeutics, clinics, and community health comprise the study’s major part. The fourth academic year comprises case taking, case management, and friends & foes remedies. During the internship, students gain practical knowledge by working in hospitals under supervision.

Eligibility Criteria for BHMS in India
- The basic eligibility criterion for BHMS is that the student must have completed 10+2 or equivalent from a recognized board with subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Students who have completed their 12th from Open School are not eligible to apply for the BHMS course.
- The minimum percentage required in 10+2 for admission to BHMS course may vary from college to college, but it is generally between 50-60%.
- For the general category, the age limit to complete the BHMS course is 22 years, while for the reserved category, the age limit is 24 years.
- Some colleges also conduct their entrance exams for admission to the BHMS course. As far as other colleges are concerned, you need to appear for the national entrance test majorly; NEET is conducted for BHMS courses.
Documents Required for Doing BHMS in India
To pursue the Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine & Surgery (BHMS) course in India, one must possess certain documents.
- Firstly, the applicant must have passed Class 12th or an equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Bio-technology, and English as subjects.
- Secondly, they must submit a mark sheet and passing certificate for the qualifying exam. Those appearing for their final year exams can also apply but must submit the required documents later.
